Deficit Water Irrigation in an Almond Orchard Can Reduce Pest Damage

چکیده
Irrigated almond orchards in Spain are increasing acreage, and it is pertinent to study the effect of deficit irrigation on presence pests, plant damage, other arthropod communities. In an orchard examined from 2017 2020, arthropods diseases were studied by visual sampling under two treatments (T1, control T2, regulated (RDI)). Univariate analysis showed no influence aphid Hyalopterus amygdali (Blanchard) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) population but Tetranychus urticae Koch (Trombidiformes: Tetranychidae) damage leaves was significantly less (50–60% reduction damaged leaf area) T2 RDI treatment compared full T1 2019 2020. Typhlocybinae (principal species Asymmetrasca decedens (Paoli) Cicadellidae)) also lower treatment. Chrysopidae Phytoseiidae, important groups biological not affected The most observed not, general, multivariate principal response curves show significant differences between strategies conclusion, schemes with restricted water use (such as RDI) can help reduce foliar pests abundance secondary orchards.

Improving Almond Productivity under Deficit Irrigation in Semiarid Zones
Sustainable water use is one of the greatest challenges of irrigated agricultural systems. This study presents the results related to the agronomic and physiological response to the deficit irrigation of almond trees (Prunus dulcis DA Webb Mill cv. Guara) under semiarid Mediterranean conditions in the Guadalquivir river basin (SW Spain). Two deficitirrigation strategies were tested: i) regulate...
متن کاملProfitability Comparison Study of an Organic Almond Orchard Versus a Conventionally Farmed Almond Orchard in Stanislaus County
This study examined the differences in costs and profitability for established conventional and organic almond orchards in Stanislaus County, California. The study used a partial budgeting approach to compare cost and profitability for established orchards for 2010, and thus ignored transition costs. Data was obtained from UC Davis cost studies for organic almonds, and from the Green Valley Ran...
متن کاملEvapotranspiration Estimate over an Almond Orchard Using Landsat Satellite Observations
California growers face challenges with water shortages and there is a strong need to use the least amount of water while optimizing yield. Timely information on evapotranspiration (ET), a dominant component of crop consumptive water use, is critical for growers to tailor irrigation management based on in-field spatial variability and in-season variations. We evaluated the performance of a remo...
متن کاملDeficit irrigation for reducing agricultural water use.
At present and more so in the future, irrigated agriculture will take place under water scarcity. Insufficient water supply for irrigation will be the norm rather than the exception, and irrigation management will shift from emphasizing production per unit area towards maximizing the production per unit of water consumed, the water productivity. To cope with scarce supplies, deficit irrigation,...
